An unfortunate incident occurred at the solo exhibition of renowned artist Nicolas Party, currently held at Hoam Art Museum in Seoul. On September 18, a visitor accidentally caused a piece to fall from its display, leading to a temporary halt in its exhibition. According to the museum, the accident happened when a young visitor, distracted by their mobile phone, backed into the display stand holding Party's Triptych with Tree Trunks.
The artwork, composed of three panels in an arched format, was securely mounted on a pedestal. Though the artwork itself was not damaged, two screws from the hinges were dislodged upon impact. The museum promptly consulted with the artist to address the issue, ensuring the work’s restoration.
Following necessary repairs and adjustments to the display pedestal, the museum announced that the artwork would be reinstalled and back on view starting September 24.
Nicolas Party, renowned for his surreal and dreamlike pastel works, has become a significant figure in contemporary art, with his paintings fetching prices in the multi-billion won range in the global art market. His ongoing exhibition at Hoam Art Museum continues to attract attention from both art aficionados and the general public.
