Nexon has officially announced the termination of MapleStory 2, marking the end of nearly a decade of service since its launch on July 7, 2015. The beloved MMORPG will conclude its operations on May 29, bringing an era of colorful adventures and community-driven gameplay to a close.

The announcement was made on February 20 through MapleStory 2's official website, where Nexon detailed the service termination schedule and refund policies. As of the latest server maintenance on February 20, all in-game payment services have been discontinued. Items sold through the Cash Shop have been removed, though players can still retrieve items stored in their Cash Storage. Additionally, players will be allowed to cancel any in-game purchases made within the last seven days. Nexon plans to release further details regarding the refund process on February 27.

The closure also affects new players, as account creation for MapleStory 2 has been suspended following the February 20 maintenance. This restriction applies to Nexon IDs that have never accessed the game. However, existing players can continue to access the game and create new characters until the official shutdown date.

On May 29, the game servers will go offline permanently, and the official website will be deactivated. All community posts, guides, and player-generated content on the site will be deleted. Nexon has urged players who wish to save any materials from the website to do so before the final shutdown.

MapleStory 2 debuted as the 3D successor to the popular 2D MMORPG MapleStory, aiming to expand on its predecessor’s success while introducing new gameplay mechanics, vibrant voxel-style graphics, and a highly customizable player experience. The game offered a wide range of activities, including player-created dungeons, a housing system, and numerous social events that fostered a loyal community.

Despite its initial success and dedicated fanbase, MapleStory 2 faced challenges in maintaining a steady player population over the years. Shifting trends in the MMORPG market and stiff competition led to gradual declines in user engagement, ultimately influencing Nexon’s decision to sunset the game.

Long-time fans have expressed a mixture of nostalgia and sadness over the announcement, taking to social media to share their memories and pay tribute to the community that flourished within the game. Many players credit MapleStory 2 with fostering lifelong friendships and providing countless hours of entertainment.

For players seeking more information about the game’s shutdown process, refund details, or account management, Nexon encourages them to visit the official website before it goes offline.
