Acclaimed South Korean actor Jung Woo-sung will attend the prestigious Buil Film Awards ceremony, marking his first official public appearance since registering his marriage earlier this year. The star is scheduled to participate in the annual handprinting ceremony at the Signiel Busan Grand Ballroom in Busan on September 18.

Event organizers announced the winners of the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award and the list of participants for the handprinting ceremony on Thursday. Jung's appearance comes after months of staying out of the public eye following personal revelations that made headlines nationwide.

The actor's return to public events follows a series of personal developments that began last November. At that time, Jung acknowledged that he had fathered a child out of wedlock with model-turned-celebrity Moon Ga-bi, who had revealed the birth of their child through her social media accounts. Jung subsequently confirmed through his talent agency, Artist Company, that he was indeed the father of the child and publicly pledged to take full responsibility as a parent.

The story took another turn in August when reports emerged that Jung had officially registered his marriage with his longtime partner. However, his agency declined to provide any comments regarding these marriage reports, citing the actor's right to privacy in personal matters.

The Buil Film Awards hold significant historical importance in the Korean film industry. Established in 1958, these awards are recognized as the oldest film awards in Korea and played a crucial role in shaping what is now considered the golden age of Korean cinema during the 1960s. This year's ceremony will present honors across 16 different categories, including the prestigious Star of the Year Award and the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award.

The Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award carries special significance within the Korean film community. Named after the late director Yu Hyun-mok, who lived from 1925 to 2009, the award honors filmmakers who embody the director's pioneering spirit of realism and humanism in Korean cinema. The special recognition celebrates those who demonstrate artistic challenge and unwavering dedication to their craft.

Previous recipients of this distinguished award include notable figures in Korean cinema. Actress Bae Doo-na received the honor in 2023, followed by director Jang Jae-hyun in 2024. This year, the award will be presented to actor Jang Dong-gun in recognition of his outstanding performance in the film "A Normal Family."
