Cultural exchange concert in the Philippines precedes two Seoul performances on Sept. 23

Concerts combining Korean traditional music with Broadway musical songs will be presented in Manila and Seoul this month.

Maksang Musical Company will stage the “2026 Seoul-Manila Cultural Exchange Crossover Concert” at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in Manila on Sept. 9. A Seoul production titled “Our Sound Meets Broadway” will follow at Sowol Art Hall in Seongdong District on Sept. 23.

The Seoul concert will place pansori, live traditional Korean music and Broadway repertoire within a single gala programme. More than 50 performers and musicians are scheduled to participate in performances at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Each performance runs for 100 minutes without an interval and is open to audiences aged seven and older. Tickets are priced at 50,000 won for R seats and 30,000 won for S seats.

The Manila project combines performance with arts education. On Sept. 8, Korean performing artists will lead masterclasses in vocals, choreography, stage makeup and hairstyling for local university students and children with limited access to arts education. The programme will also include an artist talk and question-and-answer session led by director Lee In Seong.

The Sept. 9 concert will bring together musical theatre, pansori, Korean dance, K-pop and other popular music. It is scheduled as a free cultural exchange performance for local students, children and other members of the community.

Actor Park Sang Myeon serves as artistic director of both projects, while Lee is the overall director. The company said the Seoul production will invite audiences with limited access to cultural events and provide young performing artists with professional stage experience. Donated supplies will also be presented to children in Manila.

According to the organisers, the Manila project was selected for Seoul’s 2026 Private International Cultural Exchange Promotion Support Programme, while the Seoul concert is supported through the city’s Private Korean Traditional Music Event Support Programme.
