Renowned Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu (Xu Xi Yuan) has passed away at the age of 48.

On February 3, Hsu’s younger sister, Dee Hsu (Xu Xi Di), confirmed the tragic news through her manager. The cause of death was reported to be acute pneumonia, a complication arising from the flu.

"Our family was on a trip to Japan to celebrate the New Year," Dee Hsu shared. "Unfortunately, my dearest sister, whom I loved deeply, has left us." Expressing her grief, she added, "I am grateful to have shared life with her as her younger sister. I will forever cherish the moments we spent together. Rest in peace."

Barbie Hsu was widely recognized in South Korea for her role as Shan Cai in the Taiwanese adaptation of Meteor Garden (꽃보다 남자), which gained massive popularity across Asia. She also starred in dramas such as A Chinese Ghost Story (천녀유혼) and the film Reign of Assassins (검우강호).

In 2022, Hsu made headlines with her unexpected marriage to South Korean singer and DJ Koo Jun Yup. The couple rekindled their relationship after Koo reached out to her following news of her divorce. The two registered their marriage in South Korea in March 2022, marking a new chapter in their lives.

Since their marriage, the couple has been living in Taiwan, building a home together. As recently as December 25 and 31 of last year, they shared family photos, giving fans a glimpse into their happy and peaceful life.

Hsu’s sudden passing has left fans and colleagues in deep sorrow. Her legacy as an actress and her contributions to Asian entertainment will be remembered for years to come.
