Minoru is a contemporary artist and painter from Japan centered in Tokyo who develops his virtual architecture and topographical forms of vocabulary to showcase painting work that transcends time and space.

By depicting low ground and tall and magnificent buildings, the artist reveals the uncertainty of time, place, and perspective, building a dreamy virtual world that makes the observer move between reality and imagination.

He lived in Shinagawa, the center of Tokyo, where he lived as a child, and grew inspired to see various buildings demolished and reconstructed. He uses buildings in a more expanded sense in modern times, from objects that emphasize movements such as sails and ropes to buildings with geometric elements.

His solo exhibition, which will be held for the first time in Korea, consists of paintings and drawings that explore human thoughts and the infinite expandability of the universe to which humans belong. He will also present the "Eastbound," an early work inspired by Fernand Knopff, a leading symbolist painter from Belgium, to the "Far Sights" series, expressed in soft brown colored conte crayons.

Inspired by images selected by newspapers and magazines, he recreates them on the canvas through his style after months or years. In particular, his recent works are all the more meaningful as they contain social problems and issues faced by humans living on Earth, such as the climate change crisis and the ambivalence of urban life.

The exhibition runs until Mar. 2 at White Cube Seoul in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
