Renowned artist Liam Gillick, born in 1964, is currently presenting "The Alterants," a solo exhibition at Gallery Baton's Hannam-dong space in Seoul. The exhibition features a series of new wall-based light sculptures and experimental two-dimensional works. These light sculptures are intricate structures combining lightweight aluminum with LED lights hidden behind them. Gillick's previous work emphasized the "age of mass production and consumption," but these new pieces represent a shift toward the post-industrial era.

The adjacent graphic symbol works are designed as a new language system for the post-industrial era, reflecting the absence of specific images in a world increasingly dominated by AI and robots. These symbols, which resemble speech balloons, convey meaning in a cheerful and humorous manner while hinting at a complex and organized system in operation.

"The Alterants" delves into the intersection of human life with today's complex production and consumption processes, emphasizing the need for a new international sign system to navigate this semiotic complexity.

Liam Gillick, a leading figure in contemporary art, has made significant contributions through various mediums, including art, publishing, design, exhibition planning, and art criticism. He has exhibited his work at prestigious institutions worldwide, such as the Tate Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Venice Biennale.
