The 2023 Korea-Philippine Copyright Forum, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines and conducted by the Korea Copyright Protection Agency (Kcopa), took place in Manila on Wednesday.
The forum, centered on "the music copyright industry and new opportunities in the digital era," aimed to foster the development of music copyright markets in both countries and facilitate collaboration in related areas. Approximately 80 participants, including copyright experts and representatives from trust management organizations, engaged in discussions regarding copyright laws, systems, policies, and technology.

Following the main forum, a meeting focused on strengthening music copyright management between Korea and the Philippines. Participants shared experiences related to fees on digital copyrights and discussed strategies for expanding and distributing collected fees.
An upcoming memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the two countries, including measures such as blocking access to copyright-violating sites, is scheduled to be signed with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.
The initiatives undertaken during the forum were in response to requests from K-content export businesses seeking enhanced copyright protections abroad due to the global distribution of content. Park Jung-youl, the president of Kcopa, expressed the agency's commitment to reinforcing the global cooperation system and implementing efficient copyright protection measures.
