“Blackpink’s” Music video for “DDU-DU DDU-DU” became the first K-pop group to surpass 2 billion views on YouTube.
According to YG Entertainment on the 4th, the music video exceeded 2 billion views on YouTube around 8:57 am on the same day. This record was set in about 4 years and 5 months after the music video was released. After surpassing the first billion views in November 2019, this video has recorded billions of views every three to six months.
Including the record of a K-pop solo singer, this record is the second of all time. The music video for Psy's global hit song "Gangnam Style" is currently recording 4.6 billion views.
“DDU-DU DDU-DU” is the title track of Blackpink’s first mini-album “SQUARE UP.” The song's addictive chorus and choreography, which resembles shooting a pistol with both hands, became popular and ranked #1 in the most watched K-pop music video in the world in 2018. In addition, this song ranked 50th on the "Billboard 200", the main chart on the US Billboard at the time, and recorded the highest ranking for a K-pop girl group.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on a world tour. So far, a total of 26 performances in 15 cities have been successfully completed. BLACKPINK plans to head to the continents of Asia and Oceania this year.
