"Next To Normal" unfolds as a modern family drama, centering around Diana Goodman, a middle-aged woman grappling with chronic bipolar disorder, and her family as they navigate the challenges posed by her illness.
Penned by Brian Yorkey, who also handled the lyrics, and featuring music by Tom Kitt, the musical premiered off-Broadway in 2008 before reaching Broadway in 2009. Garnering numerous nominations at the Tony Awards that year, it secured three wins, including Best Score, and was honored with the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2010.
