On August 15, an online event celebrating the artistic exchange between Ukraine and Korea will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine. The event, titled "Ukraine - Korea Forever," has been organized by Olena Ivanchenko of the NGO "ARMY BTS UA" and Leniye Ibrahimova, founder of the brand Busurmanka LeniE'®. This initiative aims to shed light on the shared struggles for independence faced by both nations, using art as a medium of expression.
The event's timing coincides with Korea's National Liberation Day, a day commemorating the end of Japanese colonial rule and the restoration of Korean independence. The organizers hope that Korea's historical triumph over colonialism will inspire and offer hope to the Ukrainian people as they navigate their fight for sovereignty. Both Ukraine and Korea share a common history of resisting foreign invasions, and this event seeks to artistically re-examine these shared experiences.
Among the event's highlights are special performances by Ukrainian students and youth, who will sing and dance to K-pop, reflecting the profound influence of Korean pop culture in Ukraine. These performances are expected to further strengthen the cultural bonds between the two nations.
One of the key artists delivering a message of solidarity at the event is South Korean R&B singer-songwriter Karacin Jr. Known for his experimental yet catchy R&B tracks, Karacin Jr. has garnered a dedicated fanbase and has consistently supported creative projects for Ukrainian youth. Through his participation in this event, he will continue to express his deep connection with Ukraine.
In addition to Karacin Jr., the event will feature messages of support from the South Korean pop group HeMeets, singer LEO, who performs Ukrainian songs in Korean, and documentary filmmaker Hwang Kyu Beck. These artists will share diverse perspectives on war, peace, and independence, fostering artistic solidarity between the two countries.
This online event will bring together artists, government officials, and journalists from both nations, providing an opportunity to witness the depth of cultural ties between Ukraine and Korea. With K-pop and street dance culture already enjoying significant popularity among Ukrainian youth, this event is expected to further invigorate cultural exchanges between the two countries.
