A.A. Murakami, an artist duo working between Japan and the United Kingdom, will hold its first solo exhibition in Korea this September.
Paradise City will present “New Nature” at Paradise Art Space in Incheon from September 1, 2026, to February 10, 2027.
The duo consists of Japanese artist Azusa Murakami and British artist Alexander Groves. Based in Tokyo and London, they use installation art to examine the relationship between natural phenomena and technology.
The exhibition is organized around the theme “Nature after Nature.” Its installations use bubbles, fog, light and air currents to reproduce processes of formation, transformation and disappearance.
“New Spring,” installed near the entrance, takes the form of a 6.4-meter-tall tree. Thousands of bubbles emerge from its branches, fall to the floor, bounce and disappear.
“Beyond the Horizon” combines fog and bubbles to form cloud-like structures. Although its mechanical system repeats the same movements, changing air currents produce different scenes each time.
The second floor will feature the Korean premiere of “Mud Paintings From ‘A Thousand Layers of Stomach’ Series.”
For the work, the artists translated the growth process behind seashell patterns into a biological algorithm and computer code. An autonomous painting machine moves across a canvas and builds the generated patterns layer by layer.
A Paradise City representative said the exhibition was designed to examine the relationship between nature and technology through familiar materials and mechanical processes.
Paradise Art Space is located at Paradise City on Yeongjong Island, Incheon. The venue has previously presented exhibitions featuring artists including Banksy, Keith Haring, Josh Sperling and Joel Mesler.
