Rare Black Wolves Photobomb Arctic Shoot in Stunning Video

A film crew capturing glacier footage in northern Canada got more than scenic ice when two jet-black wolves wandered into frame. The clip, now viral, shows the animals loping across the snow before pausing to stare down the drone lens.

Wildlife biologist Dr. Maya Ortiz notes that black wolves are uncommon outside coastal British Columbia, making the sighting even more remarkable. “Their dark coat comes from a genetic mutation that’s rare in inland populations,” she says. Experts think the pair may be part of a dispersing pack searching new territory.

The crew, working on a climate-change documentary, kept a respectful distance and let the wolves dictate the encounter. Within minutes the animals moved on, leaving behind what the director calls “once-in-a-lifetime B-roll.”

Researchers hope the footage will boost public interest in Arctic predator conservation. Meanwhile, the video has racked up millions of views and inspired a flood of wolf-themed memes.
