NewJeans, which is gaining explosive popularity by creating a syndrome in the K-Pop world, is recently challenging Blancpink's "Billboard Hot 100" record.
BLACKPINK is a world star representing global K-pop musicians along with BTS. The group holds the longest ranking record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart among K-Pop girl groups.
BLACKPINK set a record for entering the Billboard Hot 100 for a total of eight weeks in 2020 with "Ice Cream," a collaboration with American pop star Selena Gomez.

Black Pink also holds the second-place record in this category. The song is the pre-released song "Pink Venom" from BLACKPINK's second full-length album "Bone Pink" released last year, and it has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for a total of six weeks.
Third place is NewJeans' "Ditto", which entered the Billboard Hot 100 for a total of five weeks. Ditto extended their record by another week, finishing 82nd on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
However, NewJeans' song, which is expected to break BLACKPINK's "eight weeks" record, is OMG, not Dittio. Because OMG's popularity continues to rise.
According to the latest chart released by the U.S. music media Billboard (as of February 18), the title song "OMG" of the first single album OMG released by Newzins on the 2nd of last month ranked 74th on the "Billboard Hot 100" chart.

OMG is up three notches this week from 77th last week. As a result, OMG has been on the chart for four consecutive weeks, drawing close to BLACKPINK's record.
OMG has been on a strong rise since it first entered the Billboard Hot 100 on January 28th, ranking 79th (February 4th) and 77th (February 11th).
Now it's only four weeks before BLACKPINK's "Ice Cream" record. With the recent trend of popularity, it seems that OMG's record breaking is not impossible at all.
NewJeans has been rumored among global K-Pop fans without local activities or special promotions in the U.S., and is drawing more attention in the global K-Pop world by creating a syndrome in the pop mainstream market with only musicality.

Music critics said, "As K-Pop became formalized like a brand, there was a thirst of fans for the new K-Pop, and NewJeans' unique freshness seems to have quenched the thirst. The addition of a different music style based on retro sensibility is also the key to its popularity among global K-Pop fans, including the United States."
Will NewJeans be able to grow into a K-Pop girl group that surpasses their role model and rival BLACKPINK?
In the K-Pop world, NewJeans is showing great interest in their move to become a world star such as BTS, Black Pink, and TWICE.
