Health Issues Force Actor Lee Je-hoon to Step Down from Hosting Busan International Film Festival's Opening Ceremony

Emergency surgery for ischemic colitis compels change in ceremony plans

Actor Lee Je-hoon, celebrated for roles in films like "Bleak Night," "The Front Line," and "Architecture 101," will no longer be hosting the opening ceremony of the 28th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) due to unexpected health complications. Reports suggest Lee underwent emergency surgery after being rushed to the hospital on Sunday with severe abdominal pain.

The surgery was successful; however, Lee was diagnosed with ischemic colitis, a condition where blood flow to a part of the large intestine is temporarily reduced. As a result, Company On, his representative, announced on Monday that Lee would have to withdraw from hosting the BIFF's opening ceremony due to his health condition.

Originally set to co-host the event alongside actor Park Eun-bin, Lee's absence has prompted the festival organizers to modify their plans. Instead of seeking a last-minute replacement male co-host, they have decided to have Park host the show independently.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to commence with a red carpet event at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the BIFF Theater in the Busan Cinema Center.
