In a musical prelude to his much-anticipated solo debut scheduled for early September, V, the celebrated vocalist of global K-pop phenomenon BTS, treated fans on Monday with the release of a trio of self-produced songs. The songs - "Scenery," "Winter Bear," and "Snow Flower" - had previously been available for free streaming, offering an intimate glimpse into V's artistic journey.
At precisely 1 p.m. on Monday, V unveiled this captivating collection of his creations, setting the stage for the impending launch of his first solo EP, aptly named "Layover," slated for release on September 8th.
The hauntingly beautiful "Scenery" emerged in January 2019 as a heartfelt gift from V to his admirers. Released on SoundCloud, the song was a testament to V's versatility as he composed the music and penned the lyrics, allowing fans a glimpse into his innermost emotions. Astonishingly, "Scenery" accrued an astounding 100 million streams in a mere 15 days, setting a new speed record on the music platform.
"Winter Bear," an English-language track that marked V's inaugural foray into self-created music, graced listeners' ears in the summer of 2019. Accompanied by a personally produced music video, the song's inspiration was drawn from the film "About Time," and it was during BTS' world tour that V was inspired to craft this piece. A touch of collaboration came from fellow BTS member RM, who lent his expertise in crafting the English verses.
In 2020, amidst the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, V bestowed his fans with a poignant Christmas gift in the form of "Snow Flower." This emotional offering featured singer-songwriter Peakboy, a close friend of V's. The track's release stirred resonance, soaring to the top of SoundCloud's Hot & New: All Music Genres chart, where it comfortably lingered for six consecutive days.
V, known offstage as Kim Tae-hyung, stands as the final member of BTS to venture into solo territory, as each member of the iconic group embraced individual careers since the group's temporary hiatus announcement in June 2022.
In his forthcoming debut solo record, V collaborated closely with Ador's CEO, Min Hee-jin, the creative force behind breakout sensation NewJeans. Min's dedication to capturing V's artistic essence shines through as she crafted an album that resonates with his musical sensibilities while unveiling an entirely fresh facet of the singer's talent.
The upcoming "Layover" EP encompasses a six-track ensemble, anchored by the title song "Slow Dancing," complemented by its piano instrumental version and further adorned by four B-side tracks: "Rainy Days," "Blue," "Love Me Again," and "For Us." A duo of music videos for "Rainy Days" and "Love Me Again" have already graced the stage, setting the tone for V's imminent solo debut and promising a captivating musical voyage for fans worldwide.
