The historical saga "12.12: The Day," directed by Kim Sung-su, has secured a significant milestone by surpassing 12 million admissions as of Monday, according to the film's local distributor. Released on November 22 last year, the movie has rapidly gained popularity and now holds the distinction of being the most-viewed film among those released in Korea in 2023.

"12.12: The Day" chronicles the intense nine hours of confrontation on December 12, 1979, between Chun Doo-kwang, the head of the Defense Security Command orchestrating a military coup to seize power, and Capital Defense Commander Lee Tae-shin, who bravely opposes the coup.
The movie is rooted in real events but incorporates fictional elements and characters. Renowned actors Hwang Jung-min and Jung Woo-sung portray the two main roles in this historical narrative that has captivated audiences and broken records.
