A music documentary short film titled "The Gil" is gaining international recognition for its portrayal of the remake of 1990s K-Pop group g.o.d's tracks "Road” and “One Candle." Commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and the United Kingdom, the film has secured invitations to the prestigious Bright International Film Festival in the U.K. and the Scandinavian International Film Festival in Finland.
Directed by Korean-British filmmaker Jeon Saet-byeol, "The Gil" follows four artists from the U.K. as they collaborate on remaking g.o.d's iconic tracks. Filmed entirely in London over a month, the documentary captures the artists' immersive exploration into the realm of K-pop.

The featured artists include musical prodigy Jonny Copley, Korean-British rapper Park Seung-woo, and British indie singers Ruth Guillem Gomez and Nicole Hardisson Hernandez. The film documents their transformative journey, delving into self-discovery and the evolution of their musical careers.
Former hip-hop artist Ko Bong-soo led the cinematography, marking a personal experience for both him and director Jeon Saet-byeol, as they reconnected with Korean music that influenced their adolescent years.
Monica Hyerim Lee, CEO of FrontRow Global, the film's distributor, emphasizes how "The Gil" opens avenues for new musical interpretations of classic Korean songs. The documentary explores how the melodies and lyrics of old Korean classics resonate with young musicians from the U.K.
The official soundtrack of "The Gil" is slated for a worldwide release next month, accessible on major streaming platforms.
