Animated Musical Fantasy Draws Over 455,000 Audience Since January 3 Release

Disney's animated musical fantasy film, "Wish," has maintained its position as the top-grossing movie in the domestic box office for four consecutive days, as reported by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

Since its release on January 3, "Wish" has accumulated an audience of 455,435 as of the latest data on Saturday. Notably, on Saturday alone, the film sold over 180,000 tickets, surpassing the performance of two Korean films, "Noryang: Deadly Sea," and "12.12: The Day."

On the same day, "Noryang: Deadly Sea," a film centered around Korea's revered naval admiral, Yi Sun-sin, attracted approximately 113,000 filmgoers, while "12.12: The Day," a historical saga depicting the 1979 military coup, drew around 100,000 people. The latter film has already exceeded 12 million total admissions since its release.

Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, "Wish" follows the story of a 17-year-old girl named Asha in the fictional kingdom of Rosas. After encountering a magical star that descends from the sky, she embarks on a journey to save her kingdom from King Magnifico, emphasizing themes of courage and sincerity.

Chris Buck expressed enthusiasm about the film, stating to UAE media outlet, The National, "It's just so fun and vibrant. I think it has a great message — that we're all stars and there's a power in each one of us."

"Wish" quickly ascended to the top of the Korean box office upon its release, selling over 110,000 tickets on the first day, surpassing "Noryang." An Yu-jin, a member of K-pop girl group IVE, contributed to the film's success by singing the Korean rendition of its main theme song, "This Wish."
