In a remarkable feat, the South Korean boy band sensation, Stray Kids, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by securing the title of the top-selling K-pop album in the United States for the year 2023 with their third studio album, "★★★★★ (5-STAR)." Based on sales data compiled until August 28th, the album's success marks a significant achievement for the group in the U.S. music market.
"★★★★★ (5-STAR)" has not only established itself as the leading K-pop album of the year but has also claimed the fourth position in overall album sales, an impressive achievement considering the competition. The album ranks closely behind international stars Taylor Swift with her releases "Midnights" and "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)," as well as Travis Scott's "UTOPIA" during the same period.
This exceptional sales performance has propelled Stray Kids to secure the second position in the artist rankings for the highest album sales in the U.S. for the year, with Taylor Swift reigning at the top spot.
The album's title track, "S-class," off "★★★★★ (5-STAR)," marked another milestone for Stray Kids as it soared to the number one position on both the Billboard 200 and Artist 100 charts on June 17th. This remarkable achievement signified the group's third consecutive chart-topper on the Billboard 200, following their success with the "MAXIDENT" album and the "ODDINARY" mini-album released in April 2022.
As Stray Kids continues to make waves in the global music scene, they are currently embarked on their inaugural tour, titled "Stray Kids 5-STAR Dome Tour 2023." This tour is a historic moment as it marks their debut in Japan's four major dome halls, a remarkable achievement for fourth-generation K-pop boy bands. The tour commenced at PayPay Dome in Fukuoka on August 16th and 17th, followed by Vantelin Dome Nagoya on September 2nd and 3rd. Upcoming tour stops include performances at Kyocera Dome Osaka on September 9th and 10th and Tokyo Dome on October 28th and 29th.
Stray Kids, comprising eight talented members - Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N - made their official debut with the EP "I am NOT" in 2018. Since then, the group has garnered worldwide acclaim and a dedicated fanbase for their dynamic stage performances and distinctive musical style.
