Korean pop group Monsta X will be releasing a subunit featuring members Shownu and Hyungwon this summer, according to a report by local media on Wednesday. The announcement was later confirmed by the group’s agency, Starship Entertainment. However, no specific timetable has been set yet for the subunit's debut.
The upcoming subunit marks a significant milestone for Monsta X, as it is the first time that the group will be releasing a subunit since its debut in 2015. It also comes on the heels of Shownu's recent discharge from the mandatory military service last month.
Meanwhile, other members of the group have been pursuing individual careers while Minhyuk has enlisted in the military in April. Jooheon is set to release his first solo album, “Lights,” on May 22, while I.M has hinted at solo activities with a teaser released last month. Notably, I.M is the only member who did not renew his contract with his agency and has signed with Sony Music Entertainment instead.
