In a move that surprised fans, K-pop quartet Brave Girls has officially changed its group name to BB Girls and signed with Warner Music Korea, the group's new agency. The announcement was made on Thursday, May 3rd, by Warner Music Korea, stating that the group is ready to resume their group activities.
The quartet, consisting of Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, and Yuna, left their former agency, Brave Entertainment, in February 2023 after the expiration of their exclusive contracts. After signing with Warner Music Korea on April 27th, it was initially undecided whether the group would keep their original name, Brave Girls, or adopt a new one.
Brave Girls was first formed in 2011, but the original members left the group after failing to gain commercial success. The current lineup, called the second generation of Brave Girls by their producer, Brave Brothers, also struggled to gain popularity until early 2021 when a YouTube video featuring their song "Rollin'" went viral.
The video, which compiled comments from Korean servicemen who had seen the group perform at military bases, earned Brave Girls the moniker "president of the military." The sudden popularity propelled the group to the top of the charts and made them one of the most talked-about K-pop acts of the year.
According to member Minyoung, the group is currently preparing for a new summer release under their new name, BB Girls. The decision to change their name is not uncommon in the K-pop industry, as many groups have had to do so when moving to new agencies due to copyrighted names.
Brave Girls' new agency, Warner Music Korea, is home to many other popular K-pop acts, including NU'EST, DAY6, and TWICE. With their new name and agency, BB Girls is set to continue their rise to fame and captivate audiences with their music and performances.
