Nazraeli Press has announced the release of "Tales from the City," a new photography book by Joshua Amirthasingh that captures the essence of San Francisco through a deeply personal lens. The publication represents a unique blend of nostalgic storytelling and contemporary urban photography, drawing from the artist's multicultural background and cinematic influences.

The heart of Amirthasingh's photographic work lies in the narratives it reveals through visual storytelling. Driven by profound nostalgia for the vibrant energy of his childhood in India and his passion for cinematic narrative techniques, Amirthasingh has crafted a dreamlike documentation of San Francisco, his adopted home city. His approach combines personal memory with artistic vision to create a distinctive perspective on urban life.

Amirthasingh's photographic technique focuses on discovering quiet, intimate moments within San Francisco's bustling daily rhythm. He masterfully utilizes the city's distinctive natural lighting conditions, particularly the interplay between golden hour light that casts warm, nostalgic glows across the urban landscape, and the ethereal fog that frequently envelops the city, creating dreamy and evocative atmospheric conditions. This unique combination of natural elements becomes a character in itself, adding sophisticated layers to the visual stories he captures through his camera work.

"Tales from the City" presents viewers with an engaging dialogue between the familiar and the unexpected elements of urban life. The book invites audiences to actively engage with the embedded stories within each photograph and encourages them to embark on their own personal journeys through their past experiences and memories. This interactive approach to photography creates a deeper connection between the viewer and the artistic work.

The first edition of "Tales from the City" by Joshua Amirthasingh is published by Nazraeli Press in 2025. The hardcover book measures 10.5 by 13 inches and contains 48 pages featuring 28 four-color photographic plates. The publication showcases Amirthasingh's work in high-quality reproduction that captures the nuanced lighting and atmospheric qualities essential to his artistic vision.

A special limited edition version is available with an accompanying print, produced in an exclusive edition of only 25 numbered and stamped copies.
