Natural light streams through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, casting the interior space in the same soft pastel hues that characterize the sprawling cityscape below. Outside these windows, the vast expanse of South Mumbai unfolds in all its glory. This isn't just any ordinary city view – it's an infinite stretch where the Arabian Sea meets an endless sky at the distant horizon. Here, clouds drift by at eye level, and in a metropolis where space comes at a premium and daily life moves at breakneck speed, returning home to Vyom offers something truly extraordinary: a vista that never loses its appeal and a residence that becomes more captivating the more closely you examine its details.
Perched high above Mumbai's bustling skyline, this remarkable home creates the distinctive sensation of living among the clouds. The penthouse was thoughtfully designed for a young business couple and their parents, with a clear vision in mind: creating a home that would make its residents feel as though they were waking up to infinity each morning, one that would reflect their deep appreciation for abstract design while indulging their fondness for quirky, unexpected accents throughout the space.
The journey through this extraordinary residence begins with pure drama – a stunning 20-foot-long entryway that immediately establishes the tone for everything that follows. A sculptural chandelier appears to float gracefully overhead, while abstract planters and bold crimson seating add visual rhythm and vibrant splashes of color to the space. Beyond this impressive entrance, the penthouse reveals its thoughtful layout through two distinct wings. One wing leads residents to the master suite and study area, while the other houses the parents' quarters and guest bedrooms. At the heart of the home, the living room, dining area, and breakfast nook open up as one unified, flowing space. The kitchen remains cleverly concealed behind a sophisticated frosted glass panel that can disappear entirely when needed, allowing the space to become completely integrated with the main living areas.
One of the home's most precious assets is its impressive 12-foot-high ceiling – a true luxury in space-constrained Mumbai – which has been treated with remarkable restraint and sophistication. Pastel tones dominate the overall color palette, creating a soothing, harmonious atmosphere that perfectly complements the soft morning light that filters through the sea-facing windows. Here, subtlety isn't viewed as a compromise but rather serves as a carefully chosen canvas for delightful surprises throughout the space.
This design philosophy finds its most expressive and compelling articulation in the living room. A beautifully textured wall with an earth-like finish meets crisp white offset panels, forming a backdrop that feels both grounded and airy – the perfect setting for displaying a sculptural artwork created by renowned artist Nitush Aroosh. The furniture selection carries a similar sense of playful irreverence: chairs with flowing, curvilinear silhouettes that appear to dance rather than simply stand in place. Quirky touches and unexpected pops of color are strategically placed throughout the room, inviting visitors' eyes to linger and ensuring that every corner reveals a new visual delight. A bold, graphic area rug adds a striking pop of color – almost a visual jolt against the otherwise serene setting – while still maintaining perfect chromatic harmony with the endless blue of the sea visible beyond the glass walls.
The dining area channels a distinctly more refined and elegant energy. A restaurant-style seating arrangement features a custom-upholstered sofa on one side and carefully selected chairs on the other, all surrounding a stunning marble-topped table supported by gold-finished legs. A custom-designed chandelier glows warmly overhead, while a sculptural mirror from Boca do Lobo, adorned with gold edging, captures and reflects the ever-changing moods of both the sea and sky visible through the windows.
Tucked strategically behind the breakfast counter, which is adorned with exotic Amazon green marble, the kitchen remains concealed from view thanks to an innovative automated frosted glass synchro panel featuring elegant brass bars. Inside this hidden culinary space, visitors are surprised to discover rich rust-red cabinetry, pristine white Caesarstone countertops, and distinctive Spanish tiled flooring that adds character and warmth to the functional space.
The concept of living in the sky finds renewed expression and energy in the master bedroom. The walls echo the gentle hues of a soft dawn breaking over the Arabian Sea, while carefully chosen touches of blue in the upholstery create subtle nods to the horizon that stretches endlessly beyond the windows. A comfortable bench sits invitingly by the window, encouraging residents to pause and take in the spectacular view, while a cleverly designed television unit has been seamlessly integrated into the wardrobe system with an innovative swivel hinge mechanism, allowing it to rotate depending on where occupants choose to relax and unwind.
The guest bedroom takes a different but equally sophisticated approach, exploring a palette of monochrome grays set against rich oak flooring. Curved wooden panels finished with cement lime wash add visual rhythm and texture while maintaining the home's essential connection to the sky visible outside every window.
Throughout every room of the house, a careful and deliberate balance has been struck between stillness and movement, restraint and whimsy, interior spaces and the outdoor environment. "There's a certain capriciousness to the way the design unfolds. It is never loud, but always surprising," explains Aditi Savani, the principal designer behind this remarkable project. Details that might seem incidental or purely decorative at first glance gradually begin to reveal their deeper purpose and meaning. And in a city like Mumbai, where space is incredibly precious and every square foot must be maximized, Vyom offers something truly special: a home that doesn't just rise above the urban landscape below, but opens itself completely to embrace the infinite sky above.
This extraordinary residential penthouse, spanning 3,000 square feet, was brought to life by Studio Tattva under the creative direction of principal designer Aditi Savani. The project showcases how thoughtful design can transform a high-rise apartment into a serene sanctuary that feels both grounded in its urban context and elevated above the everyday concerns of city life. The photography capturing these stunning interiors was expertly handled by PHX India and Aditya PHX India, whose images perfectly convey the interplay between the home's refined aesthetic and its spectacular natural setting high above one of India's most dynamic cities.
