Web3 consulting firm Dispread has unveiled its predictions for the Web3 industry in 2025, highlighting five key trends expected to shape the sector: the integration of AI and blockchain, Bitcoin as a strategic asset, the evolution of decentralized finance (DeFi), community-driven projects, and broader mainstream adoption of Web3 technologies.

AI and blockchain convergence continues to be a transformative force in the Web3 space. Following the widespread adoption of large language models like ChatGPT in 2024, AI agents are expected to expand beyond chatbot functionalities to power automated smart contracts, optimize trading strategies, and improve market forecasting. These innovations are anticipated to drive an increase in on-chain transactions, solidifying the synergy between AI and blockchain technologies.

Bitcoin’s role as both an investment asset and a strategic reserve is also gaining momentum. The prospect of President Donald Trump’s administration adopting Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset could lead to similar moves by other nations, positioning Bitcoin as a global reserve. Additionally, advancements in chain abstraction technology promise to revolutionize Bitcoin’s usability in DeFi. By simplifying user experiences, this technology allows seamless swaps of Bitcoin with other digital assets through a single click, eliminating the need for complex cross-network interactions.

As multiple Layer 1 projects, including Ethereum, Base, Sui, and Aptos, intensify their competition in the Bitcoin staking market, the landscape of Bitcoin-based DeFi is evolving rapidly. Dispread predicts the emergence of yield aggregators dedicated to Bitcoin DeFi, consolidating returns across decentralized applications (dApps) for improved accessibility and profitability. Projects that balance Bitcoin’s inherent stability with innovative dApps offering high yields are likely to emerge as leaders in this space.

The future of DeFi also hinges on regulatory clarity. Dispread foresees a post-Trump administration landscape where securities issues are resolved, enabling DeFi protocols to adopt previously restricted models such as fee switches and Real Yield strategies. These advancements, combined with the integration of real-world assets (RWA), could make DeFi more accessible to general investors, paving the way for a broader adoption of decentralized financial services.

Community-centric projects are poised to gain prominence in 2025, reflecting a shift toward decentralized ecosystems. Dispread highlights the growing trend of projects reducing reliance on venture capital through community-focused token distributions, aligning with the core ethos of blockchain decentralization. Early contributors and active community members are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the success of these initiatives.

Finally, Web3 and virtual asset adoption are expected to reach new heights. The launch of Bitcoin spot ETFs and integration of Web3 services into Web2 platforms are making decentralized technologies more accessible to the public. For example, on-chain activities linked to mobile social media platforms are expanding, enabling more intuitive interactions and bridging the gap between traditional and decentralized finance.

Lee Seung Hwa, head of Dispread’s research team, noted, “2024 marked a year of unprecedented growth and innovation in the Web3 space, driven by the quantitative expansion of Bitcoin and the integration of AI with blockchain. In 2025, we anticipate these use cases to mature further, driving the industry toward broader adoption.” He added, “We hope 2025 becomes the year of regulatory reform and serves as the foundation for widespread mainstream acceptance.”
