The 2026 Future Culture Festival Palbok will take place at Palbok Art Factory in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, on Oct. 17 and 18.
Organised by the Jeonju city government and the Jeonju Cultural Foundation, the festival is intended to present the results of the “Cultural City of Korea: Jeonju” initiative and explore how traditional culture can be extended through contemporary technology.
Held under the subtitle “Imagination Overload,” the program combines performances, exhibitions, start-up pop-up stores and activities for the public.
One of the central performances is “Mirae Dangsan: Ipammori,” which combines traditional Korean performing arts with an interactive system and digital media. Six performances will be held through Nov. 15, including presentations during the festival.
The exhibition “Palbok Reboot” presents nine works selected through an open call focused on reinterpretations of tradition and technology. It will remain on view through Nov. 22.
D-Cube, described by the organisers as Korea’s first space equipped with LED screens on four sides, will host immersive media art and the audience-participatory performance “Dokkaebi Noreum: PLAY.”
Additional programs include “Essence,” featuring work by academy participants, and “Mansa OK,” presenting digital arts projects made by senior participants. Pop-up stores connected to the festival’s start-up support program will also operate during the event.
Outdoor areas will contain a flea market, food trucks and an AI photo booth aimed at family visitors.
“The festival offers an opportunity to experience how Jeonju’s traditional culture can expand through its encounter with technology,” said Lee Seong Sun, director general of the city’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.
