Shinsegae has announced that it will host a solo exhibition featuring renowned American contemporary artist Sterling Ruby at the Shinsegae Gallery Cheongdam from September 5 through November. This exhibition marks a significant addition to the gallery's distinguished roster of global artists.

Sterling Ruby, a Los Angeles-based artist, is known for his innovative integration of painting, drawing, sculpture, and fashion, creating a unique genre that transcends traditional artistic boundaries. Recognized by Art + Auction in 2012 as one of the 50 artists with the highest potential for future collection, Ruby continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art.

The upcoming exhibition, titled The Flower Cutter Rests on Dust Covered Steps, will feature over 40 artworks. The exhibition is designed to present primal forces that shape our planet as a cohesive narrative. Among the highlights are the Turbine series, characterized by vibrant and explosive colors in collage-like paintings that symbolize eternal struggle.

Other notable works include the Basin Theology/Dracula Boat series, which uses detailed ceramic surfaces and thick glazes to create grave-like forms, combining elements of life, death, antiquity, and the future. Additionally, the exhibition will showcase Flower Power, a reimagining of 1960s American anti-war protest imagery, and the DR series, which depicts the primal natural world through intricate line drawings.

During the exhibition, Ruby’s fashion label S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. will also be presented for the first time in Korea at the 1st floor of BoonTheShop Cheongdam, located within the same building as Shinsegae Gallery Cheongdam. Ruby's collection, first revealed at Pitti Immagine Uomo no. 96 in Florence in 2019, has received international acclaim and was notably featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Shinsegae aims to offer a unique and authentic artistic experience by harmoniously integrating Sterling Ruby’s diverse works with contemporary trends at BoonTheShop. The gallery's commitment to showcasing world-class artists aligns with its vision of leading in lifestyle and cultural innovation.

We are proud to present Sterling Ruby's exhibition, providing a unique artistic experience to our visitors." The representative further emphasized the gallery's dedication to offering genuine exhibitions and events that merge fashion, design, architecture, and other diverse genres to enhance value communication with customers.

This exhibition follows Shinsegae's successful past ventures, including the inaugural exhibition of Recycle Artist Rirkrit Tiravanija and a recent showcase of Japanese street photographer RK's work. Shinsegae continues to set trends in integrating retail with cultural and artistic experiences, promising to enrich the everyday lives of its patrons through diverse and engaging art exhibitions.
