South Korean entertainer Lee Sang Min, a former singer and popular television personality, has addressed international fans following South Korea's brief declaration and swift repeal of martial law. On December 4, Lee posted a message in English on Instagram, stating, "South Korea will manage this well. The Korean people will conclude the current martial law in the right direction."
Lee clarified, "South Korea is neither in a state of war nor chaos. Martial law was declared due to political tensions, but the National Assembly has already resolved to end it. South Korea is safe. To everyone worldwide who loves and worries about South Korea, I want to assure you there is no need for concern."
This reassurance came after a tense evening on December 3, when President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law during a national address at 10:23 PM in response to escalating political conflicts. However, the situation de-escalated rapidly as the National Assembly convened and, within approximately two hours and 35 minutes, unanimously passed a resolution to end martial law with all 190 attending lawmakers voting in favor. President Yoon then held a cabinet meeting at 1:40 AM to approve the repeal, formally lifting martial law just six hours after its declaration.
