SEOUL — Arts Council Korea (Arko) is hosting the 10th World Summit on Arts and Culture, a three-day international gathering focused on fostering global cultural exchange and strengthening public support for the arts.
Under the theme “Shaping the Future of Arts and Culture,” the summit brings together 106 participants and speakers from 65 countries for 36 sessions. Topics include artificial intelligence, the future of cultural policy, and building sustainable cultural ecosystems.
“Art and culture represent a common tongue for the future of all humankind,” said Choung Byoung-gug, Chairperson of Arko, during his opening remarks at the Arko Arts Theater in Seoul. “I sincerely hope this general assembly becomes a truly meaningful gathering where cultural policy leaders can forge a shared vision.”
Choung also highlighted South Korea’s cultural achievements, stating, “For many years, Korea has been transforming itself through the power of culture. This transformation is driven by the belief that culture is not owned by a few, but belongs to everyone.”
The World Summit on Arts and Culture, first launched in Canada in 2002, is held every three years and organized by the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA). The 2023 IFACCA board unanimously selected South Korea as the host nation—making it the first time the summit is being held in an Asian country.
