President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee concluded their visit to Warsaw, Poland, from July 12 to 15, following their attendance at the annual NATO summit in Lithuania. President Yoon's visit marks the first time in 14 years that a Korean leader has visited the Polish capital and coincides with the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Seoul and Warsaw.
During their visit, President Yoon and First Lady Kim engaged in various activities aimed at enhancing diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations. They attended a welcoming reception at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw and participated in the Korea-Poland Business Forum, promoting economic cooperation between Korean and Polish enterprises. The presidential couple also embarked on a tour of the picturesque park and palace complex, Royal Baths, and met with Polish scouts who will attend this year's World Scout Jamboree in Korea.
A highlight of the visit was the "Cultural Chat with Polish Youth" event, held at the library of the University of Warsaw on July 14. As a staff member involved in organizing the event, I witnessed the preparations that took place throughout the day. The university, with its rich history spanning over 200 years, provided an ideal venue for fostering cultural exchange. Approximately 100 Korean studies majors, along with faculty members and Honorary Reporters, attended the event.
With meticulous planning and rehearsals, the event commenced with welcoming remarks from the university president. President Yoon, in his address, underscored the shared values and similarities between Korea and Poland, expressing admiration for the university's role in bridging the two nations. He also pledged to create more opportunities for Polish and Korean students to connect and learn from each other.
The highlight of the event was the heartfelt speeches delivered by three Korean studies majors, who shared personal stories about how Korean culture has influenced their lives. President Yoon listened attentively, his face filled with pride. The Korean Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Park Bo Gyoon, further emphasized the significance of fostering close bilateral relations.
To conclude the event, all attendees gathered for a group photo, at the suggestion of President Yoon, forming finger hearts—a popular gesture symbolizing love and affection. The presidential couple departed the venue with smiles, warmly shaking hands with participants as they made their way out.
As a staff member involved in the event, ensuring its flawless execution was both an honor and an unforgettable experience. While the main program lasted approximately 40 minutes, meticulous attention to detail and real-time adjustments were necessary to ensure its success.
President Yoon's visit to Poland has not only deepened bilateral ties between the two nations but also served as a testament to the enduring friendship between Korea and Poland. The visit further strengthens the cultural and diplomatic bonds forged over the past decade, laying the foundation for continued collaboration and cooperation in the years to come.
