Taeyang, a member of the iconic K-pop boy group BIGBANG, has found inspiration in sunsets for his upcoming solo EP, "Down to Earth." At a media event held in Seoul on Monday, Taeyang shared that watching sunsets provided him with solace during difficult and challenging moments.
The group, known for hit songs such as "Lies," "Last Farewell," "Fantastic Baby," and "Bang Bang Bang," had a five-year hiatus due to mandatory military service and further delays caused by the pandemic. During this time, Taeyang got married and became a father.
Now, as a solo artist under his current label, Taeyang shared his creative process for the EP, which includes six tracks in diverse genres such as ballad, hip-hop, and soul. He wrote down words and themes from his everyday life, often using a typewriter for an analog sensibility, and co-wrote all the tracks based on his emotions and thoughts.
The EP features collaborations with Jimin of K-pop supergroup BTS and Lisa of girl group BLACKPINK. Taeyang's focus shifted from the style and sound of his music to the messages and thoughts conveyed in his lyrics, reflecting his personal challenges.
His ultimate goal, he said, is to be loved by fans through his music. When asked about the chances of BIGBANG reuniting and working on group projects in the future, Taeyang spoke cautiously but optimistically, stating, "If all the members work diligently, I believe there will be a good opportunity for us to meet our fans as a group again."
