From December 7 to January 13, 2024, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles will feature a retrospective of thirteen films starring South Korean actor Song Kang-ho. The lineup includes notable works such as "Joint Security Area" (2000), "The Host" (2006), "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" (2008), "Thirst" (2009), "The Age of Shadows” (2016), and the Oscar-winning "Parasite" (2019).
Debuting as a film actor in 1996, Song Kang-ho gained attention with films like "Green Fish" (1997) and "Shiri" (1999). In 2000, he achieved stardom with "The Foul King." Notable collaborations with director Bong Joon-ho in the early 2000s, including "Memories of Murder" (2003) and "The Host," further solidified his reputation.
During the 2010s, Song starred in films depicting the authoritarian rule of the 1980s, such as "The Attorney" (2013) and "A Taxi Driver" (2017). His global recognition soared with the Oscar-winning "Parasite" in 2019, and in 2022, he featured in "Broker" directed by Hirokazu Koreeda.
The retrospective series, organized by the Academy Museum Film Program Team and the Korea Foundation, marks the first program at the museum dedicated to a Korean actor. Song Kang-ho will participate in discussion sessions at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures from December 7 to 10, as announced by the Korea Foundation.
