In a historic move for Korean soccer, midfielder Lee Kang-in, hailed as the future of the sport in his country, has become the first Korean player to join the prestigious French professional team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

On July 9, PSG officially announced on its website, "Paris Saint-Germain is thrilled to welcome Kang-In Lee, who has signed a contract until 2028."

Lee's inclusion in PSG's roster makes him the 13th Korean player to compete in the top-tier Ligue 1 of European football.

PSG, France's leading soccer team, boasts an impressive lineup of world-class players including Neymar Jr., Kylian Mbappe, Marcos Aoas Correa, and Fabian Ruiz. The club holds the sixth position in the global club rankings of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

During the previous season, PSG relied heavily on the attacking prowess of the "MNM trio" composed of Leo Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe. Consequently, soccer fans eagerly anticipate Lee's arrival and the role he will play in bolstering the team's offense, especially with Messi's departure for Inter Miami in the United States.

Lee's journey in soccer began at a young age when he appeared on the KBS sports reality show "Fly Shoot Dori" at the age of 6 in 2007. Even at that tender age, he displayed remarkable technical skills that far surpassed his peers.

In December 2017, at the age of 17, Lee joined the Spanish club Valencia, embarking on his professional career. He made significant contributions to Korea's runner-up finish at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2019, earning recognition as the tournament's top player.

After two seasons with Mallorca in Spain, Lee finalized his move to PSG in August 2021. In Paris, he will don the number 19 jersey, mirroring his previous team. Although the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, reports suggest it to be around EUR 22 million (KRW 31.1 billion).

To celebrate the news of Lee's arrival, PSG launched a Twitter account in Korean and released a video interview with him on its official YouTube channel.

Expressing his excitement, Lee stated, "It's incredible to be able to join Paris Saint-Germain. It's one of the biggest clubs in the world, with some of the greatest players in the world. I can't wait to embark on this new adventure."

With Lee's addition to the team, PSG and its fans anticipate a dynamic and fruitful partnership, as the young midfielder aims to make his mark and contribute to the continued success of the renowned French club.
