Korean contemporary artist Byung-koo Jeon holds a solo exhibition, 'Berlin, A Candy, A Woman in Hijab' in Seoul.
Jeon is an artist who interprets objects or scenes he encounters daily in his style. The exhibition name lists three works of the same name, each of which refers to scenery, still life, and characters that the artist encounters in many parts of the world.
He captures ordinary moments of daily life, such as vinyl hung on branches, azaleas blooming in the back of the mountain, and local rivers on rainy days. The artist says that the reason why an ordinary object feels new one day is not because the object has changed, but because the subject of observing the object has changed.
In the exhibition, Jeon focuses on the subject of looking at the object rather than the meaning of the object being viewed. He expresses the moment the observer changes with a delicate brush on the canvas.
The artist painted moments captured in many cities around the world, including Berlin, Leipzig, and South Korea. Rather than reproducing the scenes he saw, the artist uses objects to express them in a new way.
The exhibition will be held at the Lee Eugean Gallery in Gangnam-gu, Seoul from the 7th to January 12th next year.
