Choi Woo-shik, known for his roles in "Parasite" and other youthful characters, recently discussed his role in the Netflix series "A Killer Paradox" during a group interview in central Seoul on Wednesday.
In the new Netflix original series, Choi portrays Lee Tang, a character who justifies vigilantism by targeting individuals he deems evil. Despite his character's actions, Choi expressed a firm belief that killing cannot be justified. "A Killer Paradox" quickly climbed to No. 2 on Netflix's global rankings for non-English language shows within three days of its Feb. 9 release.
As Tang's killing spree unfolds, the series delves into moral questions surrounding right and wrong, justice, and societal condonation of vigilante activities. Choi aimed to depict Tang's transformation from ambivalence about his abilities to identify evildoers to embracing his fate as a vigilante.
Choi acknowledged the potential appeal of Tang's ability but emphasized that, in reality, such a power would be a curse, particularly for an ordinary person in their 20s. Despite his attempts to physically transform for the role, Choi found it challenging to gain weight and ultimately decided not to overly emphasize Tang's physical transformation in the series.
Choi, turning 33 this year, expressed a desire to shed his youthful image and explore diverse roles in the future. He emphasized the importance of enjoying the filming process when choosing his next projects and acknowledged a desire for a change in his acting image.
