Sony Group and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) have announced the appointment of Hideaki Nishino as the new President and CEO of SIE, effective April 1, 2025. The leadership transition follows SIE’s organizational restructuring, which was first announced in May 2024.
Nishino has been leading the Platform Business Group alongside Hermen Hulst, who will continue as CEO of the Studio Business Group and report to Nishino. The change marks a significant shift in Sony’s gaming division, reflecting the company’s long-term vision for PlayStation’s growth and innovation.
As part of the broader restructuring, Hiroki Totoki, the current Chairman of SIE, will assume the role of President and CEO of Sony Group, stepping down from his position at SIE. Additionally, Lin Tao, SIE’s Executive Vice President, will transition to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Sony Group, with her successor yet to be announced.
Hiroki Totoki expressed confidence in Nishino’s leadership, stating, "Working closely with Nishino and Hulst has given me valuable insight into SIE’s evolving landscape. I have full confidence that under Nishino’s leadership, SIE will reach new heights."
Reflecting on SIE’s legacy, Totoki emphasized the company's 30-year history of delivering exceptional entertainment experiences. "As we turn the page to a new chapter, SIE remains committed to fostering creativity and building meaningful connections for millions of players worldwide," he added. He also welcomed Lin Tao to her new role as Sony Group’s CFO.
Nishino, who joined Sony in 2000, has held key positions in SIE’s platform business, overseeing technology, products, services, platform experience, third-party publisher and developer relations, as well as hardware and peripheral sales and marketing. His expertise has been instrumental in shaping the PlayStation ecosystem, and his appointment signals Sony’s commitment to further expanding the PlayStation brand through innovation and strategic partnerships.
"I am honored to lead Sony Interactive Entertainment," said Nishino. "My focus will be on delivering immersive entertainment experiences while leveraging technology and creativity to further grow the PlayStation community. We are committed to bringing the best innovations to our players worldwide."
Nishino will continue to oversee the Platform Business Group, while Hulst will lead first-party content development, publishing, and operations as CEO of the Studio Business Group. Their combined leadership is expected to strengthen PlayStation’s position in the industry, ensuring a cohesive strategy between hardware, software, and services.
With this new leadership structure, Sony is preparing for its next phase of growth, emphasizing technological advancement, content expansion, and global market leadership in the evolving gaming industry.
