The Millenium Eye, situated at the Guryong neighborhood park, stands as a symbol of the Digital Media City (DMC). Comprising 142 stainless steel balls that resemble rising water bubbles, the structure reflects DMC’s vision of leading the world into the future of the digital media era.
In a competition held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to create a structure that best represented the DMC, 19 entries were submitted, and the entry by Artists Beikyoung Lee, Youngho Yoo, Jeomsoo Na was selected as the winner. The artwork consists of three parts - "Millennium cell," "Global eye," and "World square" - which the city states well capture the features of the DMC, a place where people around the world engage in active exchanges and experience various things through advanced media technology.
The Millenium Eye is a representation of the message that the DMC aims to convey - the wishes and hopes of people worldwide can be merged into one and communicate with each other through an embodied art space. The structure's floor contains a 30m diameter disc structure with 12 LED lines, representing the 12 zodiac signs of the Orient. This design is similar to how the bottom of the tomb was turned in a circle in the past, and a zodiac statue was placed in each.
To reach the Millenium Eye, visitors can take Maul Bus #18 from Digital Media City Station, Exit 2, and alight at DMCVille. Alternatively, regular city buses drop off visitors at World Cup Park 5-danji, and the park is located right beside it.
