"The Roundup: Punishment," the latest installment in the crime action franchise, has achieved remarkable success, surpassing 4 million viewers within five days of its release.
Despite its popularity, concerns have emerged within the film industry regarding the disproportionate allocation of screens and seats to the film, potentially impacting the visibility of other movies in theaters.
Data from the Korea Film Council as of April 28 indicates that "The Roundup: Punishment" has attracted an estimated total attendance of around 4.4 million since its release on April 24, averaging approximately 900,000 viewers per day.
The film's break-even point is approximately 3.3 million viewers, indicating a strong performance at the box office. On April 27, it set a new record for the highest daily attendance in the series, with 1.22 million viewers.
With "The Roundup: Punishment" accounting for 94.3 percent of total box office revenues on April 27 and screening 82 percent of total screenings nationwide, its dominance in theaters is evident.
Furthermore, the film filled 85.9 percent of all cinema seats nationwide, totaling 2,668,000 seats, with a reservation rate exceeding 90 percent.
Hwang Jae-hyun, responsible for strategic support at CGV, highlighted that screen allocations are managed based on audience demand and characterized the concentration on "The Roundup: Punishment" as temporary.
