Director Ryoo Seung-wan’s new action film, “I, The Executioner,” a sequel to his 2015 hit “Veteran,” is slated for release in September, according to its distributor CJ ENM on Thursday.
“I, The Executioner” is an action crime film that follows veteran detective Seo Do-chul, reprised by actor Hwang Jung-min, as he teams up with a new member, Park Sun-woo, portrayed by actor Jung Hae-in, to pursue a serial killer. The film expands on the narrative established in "Veteran," which followed Do-chul's investigation into a case involving a corrupt corporate heir.
The film was featured in the Midnight Screening category at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival in May, where it received a 10-minute standing ovation. “Veteran,” which premiered on August 5, 2015, achieved significant success, attracting 13 million moviegoers and becoming the fifth highest-grossing Korean film of all time. It detailed the story of Seo Do-chul and his team's efforts to bring down a powerful antagonist, Tae-oh, played by Yoo Ah-in.
Director Ryoo Seung-wan is also preparing for another project titled “Humint,” which will feature a prominent cast including Zo In-sung, Park Jeong-min, Park Hae-joon, and Nana.
