The Important data has been released that clearly proves how influential K-Pop was in the global album market last year.
Eight K-Pop artists representing Korea were included in the Top 20 of the "2022 Global Album Chart" selected by IFPI(International Federation of the Phonographic Industry).
IFPI's global album chart was the top 20 of the best music albums released worldwide last year, of which K-Pop accounted for 40 percent.
In particular, four K-Pop superstars, BTS, Stray Kids, Seventeen, and Black Pink, were ranked in IFPI's top 10 "Global Album Chart" last year.
In other words, K-Pop artists played a strong role as "relief pitcher" in the global music market, which was greatly dampened by the global economic recession last year.
BTS led amongst eight albums from Korean artists to feature in the Top 20, with Proof taking the #4 spot. Both Stray Kids (MAXIDENT #6 and ODDINARY #14) and SEVENTEEN (Face The Sun #7; SECTOR 17 #18) had two albums in the Top 20, while TOMORROW X TOGETHER and ENHYPEN both appeared in the Global Albums Chart for the first time, at #11 and #16 with MANIFESTO: DAY 1 and minisode 2: Thursday’s Child respectively. Korean girl group BLACKPINK also made their debut in the Top 10 with their album BORN PINK which charted at #8.
BTS proved themselves that they are the true leaders of the K-Pop world, with the anthology album "Proof" ranking fourth on the Global Album Chart.
Black Pink was the only K-Pop girl group to proudly rank in the top 10 with "Born Pink," which gained explosive popularity around the world.
The No. 1 "Global Album Chart" of honor was won by U.S. Latin pop rapper Bad Bunny's "Un Verano Sin Ti". Bad Bunny is the first Latin American artist to win an IFPI Global Chart Award. Un Verano Sin Ti, the hugely celebrated fifth album from the Puerto Rican rapper and singer, was released in May 2022.
The 23-track album, which is an all-Spanish language record, went on to spend 13 weeks atop the Billboard 200 album chart, and later that year became the first Spanish-language album to be nominated for Album of the Year at the GRAMMY Awards.
Taylor Swift's "Midnights" and Harry's Styles' "Harry's House" ranked second and third, respectively.
Frances Moore, Chief Executive, IFPI, said: “This year’s Global Albums Chart bears testament to the incredible partnerships that exist between artists and record labels. These partnerships nurture and support artists while they write and record their music before going on to promote albums on a global level, achieving extraordinary amounts of success around the world.”
Since IFPI is a representative organization of the global record industry, the global album chart is meaningful and has high public confidence.
IFPI has released a variety of global rankings, including artist of the year, albums, and singles, each year by combining physical album sales sold around the world with digital music downloads, audio and video streaming figures.
This year, the music industry and fans around the world are also paying attention to how many K-Pop albums will be listed on IFPI's global album chart Top 20.
