SEOUL, June 2, (SayArt) - The submission deadline for the Seoul Design Awards, an international design accolade recognizing designers who provide creative and sustainable solutions to everyday problems, is approaching in one month.

The Seoul Design Awards, previously known as the Human City Design Awards, which aimed to address complex urban issues through design since 2019, has now expanded its scope to encompass all designs for a sustainable everyday life.

This year, the awards aim to select winners based on their contribution to "sustainable projects that promote a harmonious relationship between people, society, and the environment," aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The evaluation criteria for this year's awards are as follows:
-Does the design address public design issues for a sustainable and harmonious everyday life?
-Does the design contribute to the vision of a culture and civilization where humanity and the environment coexist?
-Does the design offer potential ripple effects through participation, collaboration, problem-solving, and global expansion and sharing?

UNESCO, an international specialized agency established to promote education, science, and cultural exchange worldwide, adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in 2015 to address the complex challenges facing the global community. These 17 goals include eradicating poverty, ending hunger, ensuring quality education, promoting gender equality, ensuring clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, and more.

Not only the name has changed, but the Seoul Design Awards has also expanded its efforts to widely disseminate exemplary sustainable designs worldwide and has significantly increased the number of international experts involved in the judging process. The panel of international experts, consisting of five judges and ten advisors, has been expanded to nearly twice the size, with a total of 28 members (15 judges and 13 advisors). The entries will undergo a fair evaluation by this internationally renowned jury, and the winners will be announced accordingly.

Moreover, this year's awards have witnessed an expansion in the categories, including the establishment of the Research Award and the Digital Category for the "Issue of the Year." The awards, which previously had 12 categories, have now expanded to 25. While the primary submission field is limited to "design projects realized within five years," starting this year, research projects that have not been implemented can also be submitted, although they will only be eligible for the special "Research Award."

Designers and organizations from around the world can apply for the project submissions until June 28th, midnight (Korean Standard Time). Submissions should be made in English through the Seoul Design Awards website (https://seouldesignaward.awardsplatform.com).

The judging process will take place from July to September, and the winners will be announced during the Seoul Design Awards Ceremony on October 25th. The award recipients will receive a trophy, certificate, cash prize, and will be granted the opportunity to use the Seoul Design Awards logo for one year. The award-winning projects will be exhibited at DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza) for approximately 100 days, from September 27th to December 31st.

The Seoul Design Awards Ceremony will be held at DDP, a three-dimensional irregular building designed by the late Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi-born British architect who was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize. DDP serves as a venue for world-class brand exhibitions, design exhibitions, conferences, and various events throughout the year.

The Seoul Design Award is now an international venue for sharing beyond an international design award.
