Kangja Jung is the first female performing artist and painter in South Korea.
She's known for her nude performance 'Transparent Balloon and Nude' in 1968.
She has suffered from severe criticism and censorship since her first nude performance.
Eventually, her first solo exhibition, held two years after the performance, was forcibly demolished in three days.
because of fierce criticism and censorship of progressive female artists, she moved to Singapore, lived for about seven years, and returned to Korea to leave many painting artworks.
From the 1980s to the 1990s, she mainly drew landscapes and characters she saw and experienced while traveling to various foreign countries, and after the 1990s, she strengthened her own worldview with a more abstract style of painting.
Jung's work, which is evaluated as not receiving legitimate attention ahead of its time, can be seen through the Jung's solo exhibition currently held at the Arario Gallery.
In the exhibition, the audience can see the changes in the artist's painting style from the 1990s to the 2000s.
and also can feel the footsteps of her life as a female artist in South Korea.
