From April 11, a group exhibition of three Korean artists will be held at SH Gallery in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

A total of three contemporary artists will participate in the group exhibition: Kwon Ki Soo, Choi Young Wook, and Ryu Jaechun. SH Gallery, which has mainly introduced Japanese artists, is the first exhibition to introduce domestic artists since opening the Seoul Space in Korea in 2023.

Under the oriental theme of the moon and labyrinth, the exhibition features about 30 pieces by three Korean artists. The exhibition is also under the supervision of art critic Kim No Am.

 

The 'Moon', the palace of imagination, is a space where the entrance to the palace is clear, but after entering, it seems impossible to find an exit. The moon, which has been expressed in myths and legends as a form of femininity and goddesses since ancient times, is understood as an object that evokes cultural and artistic imagination.

The artist expresses a round shape that metaphorically expresses the circulation of life and death through the image of 'Dongguri', which represents his painting. Choi Young Wook contains the process of changing paintings of contemporary art, which have developed in the past Korean aesthetic tradition and the 20th-century Western art tradition. He delivers sublime aesthetic images through the Moon Jar series.

The artist has been working on a project that combines painting and installation over the past few years to build a white house and meet a moon jar in it. This project, which will be promoted around the world, leaves a message for the Earth's ecological environment.

He conveys to viewers a new way of contemporary art through the fusion of ink-and-wash painting and digital images of all the shapes created by moonlight and its light. His works contain efforts to modernize the aesthetics and traditions of Korean painting.

For the artists, the moon is forever an attractive subject and a mysterious object. The myriad of composed and expressed images and thoughts of the moon provide mysterious experiences to both artists and audiences.

Meanwhile, on the first day of the exhibition, a reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 11, involving art critic Kim No Am.
