Tickets for the final round of the 2023 League of Legends World Championship are experiencing a surge in demand on online resale platforms, fetching prices exceeding 10 times their face value. The annual championship, a globally renowned esports event held since 2011, brings together top teams from various leagues to determine the year's best team.
Scheduled for November 19 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, the final round features Korea's T1, led by Lee Sang-hyeok, widely known as "Faker," against China's Weibo Gaming. The intense competition has led to a ticket frenzy, with all 18,000 tickets selling out online and reaching prices of up to 3 million won ($2,319) on resale platforms.
In response to the high demand, esports enthusiasts are turning to cinemas offering live broadcasts on large screens, with most showings already sold out at a ticket price of 28,000 won each. The event's location in Korea after a five-year gap and heightened interest from students who recently completed the university entrance exam are contributing factors to the increased demand.
Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square is set to host street cheering events during the League of Legends World Championship finals. In collaboration with Riot Games, the city has organized various activities, including live concerts, until November 19 to create a festive atmosphere. On the day of the finals, a large screen will be set up in Gwanghwamun Square for live broadcasting, expected to draw over 10,000 fans for the street cheering event.
