K-Pop Boy Band Omega X and Former Agency Spire Entertainment End Contract Amid Abuse Allegations

Omega X, an 11-member K-pop boy band, and its former agency, Spire Entertainment, have reached an agreement to terminate their exclusive contract and resolve all disputes, according to a statement released by the group on Monday. The announcement comes after the band accused the CEO of Spire Entertainment and his wife of physical, verbal, and sexual abuse for nearly a year.

The allegations were first made public in November 2021, when all 11 members of Omega X spoke out against their former agency. Since then, the band has been pursuing legal action against the CEO and his wife.

The statement released by Omega X on Instagram reads, “After long and careful discussions with former agency Spire Entertainment, Omega X [and the agency] have mutually agreed to end its exclusive contract, and will make efforts to the development of K-pop on each party’s positions.”

The statement also thanks fans for their support and announces that the band will continue working with its current manager, whom they had worked with before their debut. The group promises to return with good music and more growth.

Omega X made their debut under Spire Entertainment in June 2021 with the single “VAMOS.” The group has been active in various activities such as web dramas and radio shows since making the allegations against their former agency. They released “Dream” on April 24, their first track dedicated to their fans.

The allegations of abuse against Spire Entertainment’s CEO and his wife have brought attention to the issue of mistreatment of K-pop idols by their agencies. The K-pop industry has been criticized for its strict contracts and the limited rights of artists. Many have called for more regulations to protect K-pop idols from abuse and exploitation.
