During the winter months, the typically serene Pocheon in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, transforms into a bustling destination for winter enthusiasts. Sanjeong Lake, a popular tourist attraction, attracts over 2 million visitors each winter. The frozen lake becomes a lively playground, featuring a Sleigh Festival with activities such as tricycle rides, vintage Korean-style sled experiences, and the iconic yellow rubber duck sled rides. The festival, open since December 30, anticipates the return of the yellow duck train on the frozen lake as colder weather is expected.

Further south, Hwacheon's annual Sancheoneo Ice Festival, launched on January 6, draws crowds seeking the thrill of ice fishing and bare-hand fishing for sancheoneo, a type of trout. The festival spans a 62,000-square-meter section of Hwacheon Stream, offering various winter activities such as ice football, ice golf, curling, bubble ball suits, sleds, and bobsleds. Recognized as South Korea's best festival by the Culture Ministry in 2010, the event has consistently attracted over 1 million visitors annually for 13 consecutive years from 2006 to 2019.
