In a statement released on Friday, SM Entertainment revealed that Onew, whose real name is Lee Jin-ki, has been experiencing health issues and has been advised to take a break to prioritize treatment and stabilization. This announcement comes as SHINee prepares to celebrate their 15th debut anniversary with highly anticipated concerts in Seoul from June 23 to 25, followed by the release of their eighth full album, "Hard," on June 26. Despite Onew's absence, the remaining members of the group, Key, Minho, and Taemin, will continue with the planned schedule, with Onew expected to return once his health improves, according to the management agency.
Acknowledging the potential concerns and uncertainties among fans, Onew personally addressed his followers through his social media platforms. He expressed his intention to make a swift recovery and assured fans that he will return as soon as he is physically well. Emphasizing the importance of his long-term well-being, Onew explained that his decision to step back during this critical moment for the group was made with the future in mind.
SHINee, known for their vibrant performances and infectious music, has been captivating audiences since their debut in 2008. Onew's absence marks a significant change for the group, who have maintained a strong presence in the K-pop industry. As fans eagerly anticipate the release of their eighth album and commemorate the band's milestone anniversary, they send their well wishes and support to Onew for a speedy recovery.
