On November 27, Cheongsong-gun will host a significant cultural performance, Requiem Blue Pine, at 3 PM in the Grand Theater of the Cheongsong Culture and Arts Center. This unique event combines regional culture with the legacy of Korea’s anti-colonial resistance, offering a meaningful reflection on local history.

Organized by the Gyeongbuk Percussion Society’s Nuri Orchestra, the performance pays tribute to the spirit of the independence fighters and militia leaders from Cheongsong. It also commemorates the 120th anniversary of the passing of Sim Seong Ji, the 66-year-old commander who led the decisive victory at the Battle of Gameun-ri. The event underscores Cheongsong’s deep historical ties to Korea’s independence movement, providing a cultural lens through which to understand the sacrifices of these brave individuals.

The concert is particularly notable for inviting members of local disability organizations, creating an inclusive space where attendees can engage with this vital aspect of history through music. By blending art and education, the event aims to deepen the audience's appreciation of the anti-colonial militia’s legacy while fostering a sense of pride in their cultural heritage.

Cheongsong Mayor Yoon Kyung Hee emphasized the importance of the performance, saying, “This concert is an opportunity for the people of Cheongsong to reflect on the history of our anti-colonial militia and take pride in their legacy. I hope many residents will attend to spend meaningful time enjoying this cultural celebration.”

The program is designed not only to honor the past but also to instill a sense of historical and cultural identity among participants. The use of traditional Korean percussion instruments alongside modern orchestral arrangements symbolizes the bridging of history and contemporary culture, demonstrating the enduring relevance of these stories.

Requiem Blue Pine represents more than a performance—it is a cultural tribute that celebrates resilience and honors the sacrifices made for freedom. By engaging with local history through music, the event seeks to inspire a deeper understanding of the values of justice and collective action that underpin Korea’s history.

The concert is open to the public, offering an enriching experience that combines music, history, and community engagement. As attendees gather to reflect on the enduring legacy of Cheongsong’s independence fighters, the performance promises to leave a lasting impact on both hearts and minds.
