SEOUL, South Korea — In honor of the 27th anniversary of its establishment, K-pop giant YG Entertainment has launched a new campaign to aid minorities and teenagers in Nepal. The company's officials will walk 10 million steps over the next two weeks and share their progress on the YG WITH Instagram account. The goal is to receive 1,000 likes.
YG officials' steps will be converted into monetary donations, which will be given to Oxfam, a nongovernmental organization that works to combat inequality, poverty, and injustice. Oxfam will then distribute the funds to Nepalese teenagers who walk 5 kilometers every day to attend school.
"With our donation, teenagers in Nepal's rural mountains will be able to achieve cultural equity and acquire a professional education for digital empowerment," YG said in a statement.
The company also announced that 27 selected fans who follow the YG WITH Instagram account, like and share the campaign news using the hashtags #YGWITH and #Walk4Equity, will receive special goods from Oxfam.
"The path that the YG family and fans have walked together has turned into a culture," YG said. "We believe we now should walk toward our neighbors, and this is the reason for running this campaign. Beginning this year, we will strive to exert a positive influence along with our officials, artists and fans."
This is not the first time that YG has participated in a charity event. Last year, the company launched Project Yourside under the slogan, "Let Nobody Be Alone," which aims to enrich the cultural experience of young people living outside the Seoul metropolitan area and bridge the cultural gap.
