NewJeans, a prominent K-pop girl group, reached the No. 1 position on Oricon’s daily singles ranking on Friday with the release of their first Japanese single album, “Supernatural.” This achievement underscores the group's growing popularity in Japan.
The title track, “Supernatural,” has garnered significant attention, topping real-time music charts on Japanese platforms such as Line Music and AWA. In South Korea, the track ranked No. 13 on Melon’s Top 100 as of June 22. Additionally, NewJeans has a notable presence on Melon’s Top 100 with 10 songs, including two Korean singles, “How Sweet” and “Bubble Gum,” which are positioned at No. 2 and 5, respectively.
The music video for “Supernatural” has also achieved considerable success, securing the No. 2 spot on YouTube’s Global Daily Top Music Videos chart dated June 21. The song, characterized by a nostalgic new jack swing style, was co-composed and lyrically contributed to by pop artist Pharrell Williams.
The single album “Supernatural” includes a Side B track titled “Right Now,” as well as instrumental versions of both songs. NewJeans is scheduled to perform their latest songs on TBS’ “CDTV Live! Live!” on Monday.
